Q5. What is the best way to remove a tick?

There are so many ways in which tick removal can be approached that it is hard to suggest the best way, but be sure that the greatest danger is separating the sawtooth mouthparts from the tick body and leaving them inbedded in the skin where a nasty skin reaction can occur, sometimes requiring antibiotic treatment.

We most often advocate the use of small devices which grip the mouthparts next to the skin which, when rotated unscrews the tick from its implanted position, leaving nothing behind.

We can show you in the first instance what to do and then provide you with the device to continue removing these parasites yourself.

With an ever increasing development of new prescription treatments to kill parasites don't forget to check with reception or nursing staff regarding topical or oral products that might now be available to kill ticks on your pet.
